I have recently expanded my tropical fish imports beyond Asian arowana and their tank mates. I owe this new direction – and a HUGE thank you – to April Ross. I have known April for over 20 years. I think we kind of got into fish importing at about the same time (along with a host of other local characters). While my focus remained on Asian arowana, April went from importing discus to creating a wonderful store that still bears her name. After leaving the store some years ago, she then started wholesaling with her Westcoast Transship (https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn1Bp7uAtcL/…) . A little while ago April asked if I’d be interested in working with her, and I accepted with gratitude. I’m a recently retired public school teacher, so tropical fish importing is the perfect activity for me in this new stage of life. I actually find the whole import process a lot of fun, though challenging at times too (which is good). Here are a couple photos from my first big transship a few weeks ago to 9 stores across Western Canada. You can see my trusty 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan in the background of one photo. With 27 boxes of fish to distribute, it’s pretty obvious I need a bigger van. More on that in a future post. Over the next year I plan to blog about my life as a tropical fish wholesaler and transshipper. Of course I will continue with Asian arowana imports too, but I am definitely expanding my horizons. * Thanks to Mike for the cartoon photo of me in action.
